Kathy and I couldn’t have been more pleased with our August 23rd Chico Barnes & Noble book signing. Store manager Judah Merrill, community-relations manager Caleb Pollard, and the rest of the Barnes & Noble staff welcomed us with a beautifully arranged display near the entrance and stacks and stacks of the four books I have written. We were busy from 10:00 a.m., when we arrived, until 4:00 p.m., when we thanked the Barnes & Noble Staff for the wonderful day we’d had. It wasn’t just about selling books—the best part was meeting and visiting with so many friendly, intelligent, and thoughtful people.

In addition to our longtime friends who dropped by to visit and offer their support, Kathy and I made many new friends—friends and relatives of people across the country who had read my books and recommended them; a traveling surgical nurse from Newville, Pennsylvania, who loved to read and was intrigued by the title of my latest novel, The Outlaw from Newville; people who had read Dan Barnett’s review in the Chico Enterprise-Record; and people who had listened to my radio interview with Nancy Wiegman on the popular NSPR program, Nancy’s Bookshelf.

Thank you to Judah Merrill and Caleb Pollard, at the Chico Barnes & Noble, and to all who came. It was a day Kathy and I will not soon forget!

The next stop on our 2025 book tour is at the Friends of the Orland Free Library public meeting on September 4, at 10:00 a.m., at the Carnegie Community Center next to the library. We’d love to see you there.

Please see below for a click-and-view slide show of the special day.
